  • Francophone schools earn financial support from Saskatchewan Arts Board

Regina, January 16, 2015 - Three Fransaskois schools recently learned they are among the latest recipients of grants from the Saskatchewan Arts Board (SAB). Three of the five projects selected for financial support by the ArtsSmart Saskatchewan program the SAB runs are Francophone school initiatives. Evidently pleased with the outcome, Acting Director of Education at the Conseil des écoles fransaskoises, Donald Michaud, suggests the cultural and community realms at the heart of the educational mission of Francophone schools in Saskatchewan gave them an edge:

"This important recognition demonstrates the level of commitment from school staff with community stakeholders, engaged in a common quest for beneficial multidisciplinary approaches to learning that generate lasting interest in a broader range of areas that include the Arts," he noted. The ArtsSmart program does aim to increase student engagement through artistic endeavours.

What follows is a school by school summary of this year's meritorious projects:

École Notre-Dame-des-Vertus ( NDV), Zenon Park : $ 10,000

Embed Francophone music with African rhythms, Indigenous and World flavours within the local francophone and multicultural school with a view to students creating an original performance, in collaboration with the Association francophone de Zenon Park (AFZP). The community will also be invited to percussion workshops for adults and performances as part of the project.

École Monseigneur de Laval, Pavillon élémentaire, Regina : $ 9,925

Explore, create, produce and present a multidisciplinary show (dance, circus arts, music) with Grade 4 to 6 students. The Grand Cabaret initiative will enhance the sense of belonging and pride in students, help facilitate the discovery of new talents and latent passions.

École Monseigneur de Laval, Pavillon secondaire des Quatre-Vents : $ 9,925

In step with the Grand Cabaret project hosted at the elementary school last year, this enhanced high school initative aims to produce a multidisciplinary show with Grade 7 to 9 students, motivating them to explore and nurture undiscovered talents, allowing their academic abilities to flourish and personnal fulfilment to be achieved through routes less travelled.
