Regina, June 12, 2023 - The University of Regina and Conseil des écoles fransaskoises (CÉF) have signed a memorandum of understanding in an agreement to work cooperatively in supporting CÉF students transitioning to the U of R.
“This important agreement strengthens our existing relationship with CÉF and highlights our commitment to supporting Saskatchewan’s Fransaskois community and all French speaking students at the U of R,” said Dr. Jeff Keshen, University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor.
“The signing of this memorandum of understanding demonstrates the CÉF's commitment to establishing a French first language educational continuum from junior kindergarten to post-secondary education by forging a mutually beneficial partnership with the U of R,” said Director of Education M. Ronald Ajavon. “On behalf of CSF Trustees and CÉF, I congratulate President Keshen’s and his team for their leadership in this matter.”
The MOU will see the U of R:
- Provide an entrance bursary worth $2,000 to CÉF students registered as a fulltime undergraduate student;
- Waive the international undergraduate application fee for all CÉF students;
- Issue early conditional admission to grade 12 CÉF students who meet the U of R’s requirements;
- Provide customized non-academic support services and programming such as the Internal Peer Advisors program, Global Learning Centre services to CÉF students; and
- Provide guidance to CÉF in their international student recruitment efforts.
The U of R’s La Cité may also provide Advanced Placements in French-language Programming to CÉF graduates who have been admitted to U of R and CÉF students will be eligible to transfer Advanced Placement Program credits based on the U of R’s existing Advanced Placement course recognition.
Subject to availability, CÉF students may take High School Accelerated (HSXL) courses subject to meeting HSXL program admission requirements and course prerequisites. Grades and credits
earned through the HSXL program may be applied, at the discretion of U of R, to eligible U of R programs for fully admitted students.
CÉF students will also be eligible for the University of Regina Really BIG DEAL. The International Student Savings Bundle could see CÉF international students save up to $21,000 CAD in tuition and fees over a four-year period if they choose to stay in housing for the duration of their studies.

French first-language school today, bilingual Francophone for life! — Conseil des écoles fransaskoises (CÉF) is home to 2,000 Prekindergarten to Grade 12 students in 16 elementary and secondary schools across the province. Financed by the Government of Saskatchewan and the Government of Canada, it is the only French as a first language school board in Saskatchewan.
