  • CÉF welcomes the announcement of two new schools for Prince Albert and Saskatoon

Regina, Monday, March 22, 2023 – Conseil des Écoles Fransaskoises (CÉF) is very pleased with the announcement made today as part of the presentation of the 2023-2024 Saskatchewan budget which provides for the construction of two new schools for the Fransaskois communities of Prince Albert and Saskatoon.

“We wish to express our gratitude to the provincial government,” said Conseil Scolaire Fransaskois (CSF) Chair Alpha Barry. "We hope to welcome students in time for the start of the 2025 school year."

Francophones in Prince Albert and Saskatoon – especially parents – have been waiting for the announcement of these two new schools for several years.

Mr. Barry made a point of mentioning that “the CÉF organization, Conseil Scolaire Fransaskois trustees, past and present; the entire Fransaskois community worked very hard to convince provincial authorities of the need to build new schools for Francophone students in Prince Albert and Saskatoon. »

Hundreds of people over the years have supported efforts to have new Fransaskois schools built in Prince Albert and Saskatoon. “The journey is not always a straight line, but what matters is reaching the destination,” noted CÉF CEO/Director of Education Ronald Ajavon. “We have 11,720 rights holders according to the most recent data from Statistics Canada and we currently welcome 2,156 students in our schools, which represents 18.4 per cent of the actual enrollment potential. CÉF will continue to work with its communities to meet the additional infrastructure needs demonstrated by census figures. »

CÉF intends to meet quickly with authorities to obtain a clearer picture of timelines and processes following today's announcement. It will communicate new school construction details to staff, CÉF families and to beneficiary communities as soon as possible.

CÉF wishes to thank the broader Fransaskois community for its support on the infrastructure file, particularly our communities in Prince Albert and Saskatoon.
